WGBA’s Lacking Founder’s Day Celebration

I am concerned about The Willow Glen Business Association’s (WGBA) 2010 Founder’s Day Celebration.  Or perhaps I should say, “What celebration?”

The WGBA web site lists Sunday, September 5 as  “Willow Glen Family and Kids’ Day” and to stay tuned for more information about children’s’ activities and family specials at local businesses.  Where are these activities and family specials?  I haven’t found them.

What is this Willow Glen Business Association Giving Back to the Community Day on September 12?  I cannot find any information about it, and it is only 11 days away.

Powell’s Sweet Shoppe of Willow Glen is holding it’s Third Annual Sweet Sunday Kids’ Flea Market on September 5.  Since when is this a WGBA Founder’s Day Event?

The Rompacoglioni Car Crew is holding its Third Annual Cruise for a Cause: Classic Car Show & Food Drive in the parking lot of Bertucelli’s La Villa Delicatessen on September 12. Since when is this a WGBA Founder’s Day Event?

Since when do a number of events sponsored by individual Willow Glen businesses constitute a Founder’s Day Celebration?

You know what?  I think the WGBA did not conceive of ANY Founder’s Day events, so they decided to ride the coat tails of some already-successful events of street-level Willow Glen Businesses.

Are we to understand that with the tens of thousands of dollars the WGBA is paying its staff there isn’t the expertise to develop a more fitting celebration?  Perhaps the WGBA should consider spending some of the over $30,000 made from Dancin’on the Avenue to hire the expertise to bring a real Founder’s Day Celebration to Lincoln Avenue.

Last 2010 HaflAdira Events: Sep 11 and Oct 23

There are only two more “HaflAdira” haflas left for 2010: Saturday, September 11 and Saturday, Oct 23.

The September 11 hafla is 75% full. This is a great venue to shake out any upcoming performances, including performances for the Desert Dance Festival.

The October 23 hafla is filling fast because of its Halloween theme and because it is immediately followed at 4:00pm by “Thrill The World.”

If you are interested in dancing, email adira@adiradance.com to request a performance slot.

DOTA Rakes in $30,000 for Willow Glen Business Association

Word has it that the Willow Glen Business Association (WGBA) made about $30K from its June 26  “Dancin’ on the Avenue” festival.

Personally, I’d like to see a big chunk of that come back to the Avenue, and not in “Avenue Beautification” because businesses like mine are already paying for that.

How about some events to bring hard revenue dollars to the businesses that are on the Avenue?  After all, my business, as well as several others, lost hundreds of revenue dollars because customers couldn’t reach us.  We think of it as the donation we made to the Willow Glen Business Association against our will.

So how about it, WGBA?  What are you going to donate back to the Avenue’s businesses?
